Drum for Life

Drum for Life is designed for wheelchair bound young men between the ages of 15 and 25. It is the goal of the Center to provide opportunities for these young men to become a productive part of society by learning the arts of making and playing conga drums. They become skilled craftsmen and musicians, and are employable in two arenas: they can repair drums for other musicians, and they can play in any capacity from a jazz trio to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

One String at a Time: String Orchestra Phase One

Teaching guitarOne String at a Time is the children's orchestra, for kids from four to 10 years old. The first group of ten kids will learn to master the guitar. It's the Center's mission to teach them to read music, which will also help them in math. The Center will add children and instruments yearly until there is an orchestra of 40 pieces, built one string at a time.

Learning to play, one guitar at a time.

The Third Annual "Minkabelle Ball" Father-Daughter Dance

Dancing the night awayThe girls and their dads danced to the Hokey Pokey, the Jackson 5's "ABC," and we did the Soul Train Line. Fathers tried to play musical chairs: very fun to watch. We closed out with the Sleeping Beauty Waltz, read the girls our new story about Minkabelle and her cousin Gracie (written by Paris Gibson). We dined on a scrumptious meal and everyone left with a gift bag. A good time was had by all.Daddy and Daughter shots
